A concrete front porch pour for a home in Vernon, Texas. The slab was formed, reinforced, and finished with a clean surface — a durable, level porch built for daily use and weather exposure.

How This Project Came Together
A front porch is a small pour, but it's also the first surface anyone touches at a home, and this Vernon project needed a slab that looked as clean under close inspection as it was durable underfoot. The porch had to hold its own grade, tie into the home's entry, and stand up to years of foot traffic and weather without cracking or an uneven surface at the doorway.
The crew formed the porch to the home's entry dimensions, placed reinforcement, and poured a level slab pitched just enough to shed water away from the doorway. The surface was floated and finished to a clean, even texture — smoother than a driveway, since a porch gets bare feet and close-up scrutiny a parking surface never does.
Challenge
A porch pour is small enough that mistakes in grade or pitch are hard to hide — there's no long driveway run to absorb a slight slope error, and the slab sits right against the home's foundation where standing water from a flat spot would sit directly against the structure. Getting the pitch right on a footprint this compact takes more precision per square foot than a larger slab does.
Solution
The crew set the porch's pitch off the home's actual threshold height rather than a generic slope, screeding the small surface carefully enough to hold that fall evenly across the whole slab instead of pooling water in one low corner near the door. The finish pass was worked slowly given the porch's size, since a small slab shows trowel marks and inconsistency more readily than a large one.
Result
The finished porch sheds water cleanly away from the entry and gives the home a level, durable surface that holds up to daily use at the front door. Working out of Vernon, this crew treats a porch pour with the same care as a much larger job — the small footprint doesn't mean less attention to the finish.
