A 25' x 40' concrete carport foundation in Childress, Texas. The pad was graded and formed under the existing steel structure, reinforcement was placed, and the slab was poured and finished smooth — turning a gravel bay into a clean, solid parking surface.
Scope of Work
- Grading under the structure
- Forming & reinforcement
- Slab pour
- Smooth finish

How This Project Came Together
This Childress carport bay had a steel roof overhead but only gravel underfoot, and the owner wanted a real concrete floor — a 25' x 40' slab poured inside the existing structure so vehicles and equipment could sit on clean, level concrete instead of rock and dust.
The crew graded the base inside the bay, formed the 25' x 40' footprint around the structure's existing columns, and placed reinforcement across the pad. The slab was poured, screeded, and finished smooth, with the edges worked cleanly against the gravel surround.
Challenge
Pouring inside an existing steel structure is a different job than pouring on open ground — the columns are already standing, so the slab has to be formed and finished around fixed steel without disturbing it, and overhead clearance limits how equipment can move. Every column penetration is also a place where a sloppy pour would leave gaps or trap water against the steel.
Solution
The crew formed and poured to the structure's real column lines, working the concrete tight and clean around each post, and sequenced the screeding so every corner of the bay could be finished without boxing the crew in against the standing steel. The finished surface was floated smooth for a parking bay rather than left rough.
Result
The bay went from gravel to a clean, finished 25' x 40' concrete floor fitted around the existing structure — level parking for trucks and equipment, no dust, and a slab finished tight to every column so water has nowhere to sit against the steel.
