Project Brief

How This Project Came Together

At 40' x 80', this Quanah barndominium foundation covers 3,200 square feet — a full home-and-shop footprint poured as one slab. The site sat back among trees and existing structures where mixer trucks couldn't reach every corner of the forms, so the pour was planned around a concrete pump from the start.

The crew graded and formed the footprint, tied reinforcement across the full pad, and brought in a boom pump to place concrete over the obstacles between the trucks and the forms. Placement moved section by section down the 80-foot length with screeding and finishing following close behind, working the slab as one continuous surface.

Challenge

A 3,200-square-foot monolithic pour is a race between placement and set time — and on a site where trucks can't back up to the forms, the pour only moves as fast as the pump can feed it. The boom's reach, the truck cycle, and the finishing crew all have to stay synchronized, because a gap anywhere in that chain leaves part of the slab setting up before it's worked.

Solution

The crew staged the pump where its boom covered the full footprint, cycled mixer trucks to keep the hopper fed without idle gaps, and ran placement in a steady sequence down the pad so the finishing crew was always working concrete at the right stage of set. Lighting rigs let the crew keep finishing at full pace as the pour ran past daylight.

Result

The full 40' x 80' slab went down as one continuous, level pour — no cold joints, no section left behind the set — on a site a conventional chute pour couldn't have reached. The pad is ready for the barndominium's steel frame, sized for a full home and shop under one roof.
