How This Project Came Together
This Childress barndominium needed its foundation handled start to finish by one crew — grading, forming, rebar, and the pour itself — so the homeowner could move straight into the build instead of coordinating separate contractors for each stage. The footprint had to be laid out to the exact barndominium plans before any concrete went down, since the metal structure would be ordered to match it precisely.
Grading came first to bring the pad to a consistent, level base across the full building footprint. Forms were then set to the exact plan dimensions and rebar was placed in a full grid across the slab, not just tied at the edges. On pour day the crew worked the concrete in from one end, keeping a steady pace so the whole surface could be screeded and finished together, corner to corner, without a break.
Challenge
A barndominium footprint runs larger than a typical residential foundation, which means more elapsed time between placing the first concrete and the last — long enough on a hot Texas afternoon for the leading edge of the pour to start setting before the crew ever reaches the far side of the slab and can screed it flat.
Solution
The crew staged the pour in a deliberate sequence, working section by section with the finishing crew following close behind the placement crew so no part of the slab got ahead of the rest before it was screeded, floated, and brought to final finish while the concrete was still fully workable across the whole footprint.
Result
The pour finished as one continuous, evenly cured slab with a clean, level surface across the whole footprint — a solid, unified base ready for the barndominium frame to go up on without any transition lines, cold joints, or soft spots anywhere in the pad. The full-scope handoff kept the homeowner on a single, coordinated schedule.
